HYDROGEN

We have the EPC design and construction capabilities needed for all phases of complex power projects and emerging technologies, including but not limited to electrolyzers, hydrogen processing, distribution, and storage facilities.

What is Hydrogen?

  • Most abundant element in the universe
  • Reacts readily with oxygen, releasing considerable amounts of energy and water as the only byproduct
  • Long history of use in industry for chemical processing
  • Sustainable hydrogen production represents a method of long-term energy storage that can be used to distribute clean renewable energy

Hydrogen burned as a fuel lowers greenhouse gas emission, since hydrogen combustion does not produce CO2. Renewable hydrogen energy is as simple as the element itself.  To use it only a few steps are involved:

  • When energy is generated from renewable sources like solar, wind and geothermal, electricity is consumed as it is produced. However, when electricity supply is greater than demand, this surplus current is passed through water (H2O), which causes it to split into hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O) through a process called electrolysis. This process can be done either through the grid or on-site.
  • Separated hydrogen is then stored in a pressurized tank for future use.
  • The stored hydrogen can then sent to fuel cells, to power combustion turbine generators or to fuel vehicles.
