Gemma Renewable Power began construction of Phases 2 & 3 of the Grand Ridge Wind Farm in October 2008. The combined phases required the installation of 67 General Electric (GE) 1.5 MW SLE wind turbine generators, 18 miles of roads, over 300,000 feet of collection system trenching and the expansion of an existing substation. Three months into construction an additional seven GE turbines were added to Gemma’s scope for Phase 4 of the project, bringing the total energy output to 111 MW. Gemma performed the foundation installation, turbine erection and all substation work for the Grand Ridge Wind Energy Center. Gemma achieved commercial operation of the project in November 2009.
