Biomass generating facilities consist of solid fuel boilers that burn a form of biomass to create steam. This steam is used to generate electricity through the use of a steam turbine. The fuel source can vary from whole tree chips and forestry waste to wood waste from furniture factories or other construction debris. These plants have elaborate fuel, handling facilities to supply fuel to the front end of the boiler and state of the art pollution control systems including SCR’s bag houses or precipitators to control the air emissions on the back end. These plants use a renewable fuel and can operate very reliably at base load.
